Concerts 4 Charities
Concerts for Charities is a club founded in Portola High School (with members from all across Southern California) to provide musical experiences beyond the school curriculum. We combine bimonthly performances at senior homes, City of Irvine coordinated events, as well as school concerts with donated profit to charities in order to give back to the community.
As an initiative sparked by two high school musicians, Concerts 4 Charities (Con4Char) began performing in local retirement homes in December of 2017. Since founding, Con4Char has partnered with 5 retirement home chains, the Irvine City Hall, and the Orange County Great Park for over 20 volunteer music performances.
These performances feature students from middle school to college in genres from jazz to classical, and cultural folk music to popular music. As of December of 2019, Con4Char has been recognized by the Presidential Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) as a certifying organization and by the IRS as a tax-exempt non-profit corporation under section 501 (c) (3). With the goal of connecting the community through music and providing invaluable performance experiences for young musicians, Con4Char’s musical mission has been featured by the Los Angeles Times, Orange County Register, and Irvine's City Television.
Participating schools include: Venado Middle School, Northwood High School (NHS), Portola High School (PHS), Woodbridge High School (WHS), Orange County School of Arts (OCSA), Irvine Valley College (IVC), University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and University of California, Irvine (UCI).
