Los Angeles Social Enterprise Venture Competition

 

Participants Announced: July 7th
Orientation & Mentor Match Meetings: July 12 or 14. Work with mentor to prepare plan and presentation.

Venture Planning Workshops: July 19th, August 2 and August 16th

Symposium and Showcase: September 22


In late August, all participants will compete in a business plan competition. A panel of business and social investors will provide valuable feedback and coaching to each presenting organization. Up to four finalists will be selected to return in September for the Showcase and Symposium. At the Showcase & Symposium, judges select winning organization, which will be awarded a package of cash and pro bono support to insure that their plan is fulfilled. 
  

The Showcase & Symposium will be a large public event which also features a speaker on emerging trends in social capital markets and addresses national and local activity, including foundations, “patient capital” loans and the emergence of “angel” social investors. 

The Social Enterprise Venture Competition is being managed by the Academies for Social Entrepreneurship and the Center for Nonprofit Management with support from Brand U, California Endowment, Executive Service Corp, First 5 LA, Hershey/Cause, LA Social Venture Partners, Nonprofit Finance Fund, Tech Coast Angels and USC Marshall School of Business.

"Dare to Earn" Venture Planning Workshops: August-September 

This program consists of four 3-hour sessions.  The series is specifically designed to provide training and the tools to develop a thriving social enterprise. Participants will be able to determine the feasibility of various strategies by working through issues such as market feasibility, pricing, positioning and the business model.  Learn more and register for the workshops at http://www.npsolutions.org/workshops


Applications Due: September 28th

Following the workshop series, organizations may apply to participate in the Social Enterprise Venture Competition where they will receive a mentor and an opportunity to complete and pitch their business plan to a distinguished panel of business and social investors. This program is designed for established nonprofits that are looking to grow.
